Art should never be censored

Hello whoever might be out there,

You are all owed a post, and to that I apologise. Starting college has been a whirlwind of an adventure and my brain is so void of ideas, I have no idea what to write about. As I am writing this, I am kind of hoping that I will be dragged towards a topic. All I can think of these last weeks is a mish-mash of linguistic terminology, sociological theories, and the pure drama of "A Streetcar Named Desire" with a few ethical debates mixed in there.

Talking of debate, I have a debate on Thursday, proposing that "Artistic expression should never be censored". I think my point is going to revolve around the associations of censorship directly coinciding with a loss of freedom. When you think of censorship, where do you think of? North Korea, Russia, Afghanistan. And I am sure when you think of places with restricted freedoms and rights, similar places come to mind.

I'm pretty certain the opposition will focus on right wing censorship, well I hope they do. The big question in this debate is "What warrants censorship?" and it will be interesting to see where the opposition take it. Will they go purely criminal works should be censored? Or a more opinion based approach? Only time will tell.

I know the two people I am up against, so it'll be quite tough, but I am sure my team can pull through. Usually my speeches go okay, but the questions screw me over - definitely my weak point. In my defence, last debate I was called up pretty last minute and "compulsory childhood vaccinations" was never something I felt strongly about either way, especially not against. This topic is way more in my favour.

The title of this post is quite misleading, I can't be bothered to fully articulate all of my points right now. I might edit this after the debate, if I win that is.

But to answer the prompt, if art was censored, this blog would be in an increasingly precarious position.

Yours faithfully,

MD
